See abc’s

A multi-sensory reading program for all learners!
(Visual, Auditory and Tactile)

Are you looking for a reading program that is a fun and easy way for your child to learn how to read?

Would you like a program that requires little preparation and will tell you word for word how to teach your child to read?

This program will  help your child use his/her imagination and be excited about reading.  In fact, throughout the program, you will hear your child say things like, “Reading is fun!” “Can we do my words, mom?” and “I love to read!”

See abc’s is a program that is perfect for preschool age children just learning to read and also children that have struggled with reading.  We have found that when children complete this program, they have greater self-esteem and confidence in their ability to read and continue to learn new words.  The children enjoy reading and they read with expression.  This allows children as they get older to do their school work with greater ease.  They can read any text book and focus on the subject instead of the challenge of reading the words first.

Your child will learn the following:
Letter names and sounds
How to blend letter sounds to make words
Standard phonics rules
How to read sight words and more

Below, you will find a description of what is taught in each book in the program along with a picture of the book.  Take a minute to see what others are saying about See abc’s.

ABC’s See What They Say
Your child will learn the lower case letters and sounds through imagination.  Each letter has a picture clue.  There are three tactile steps for each letter to help your child learn the letter sound.  They will also learn the ABC’s and 123’s Learning is so Fun song.  A CD of the song is also included.

“I have been impressed with the “ABC’s See What They Say”.  My kindergarten students learned the entire alphabet names and sounds in less than a week.  The pictures are easy to identify, so recall comes quickly.  I have never had a group catch on so completely in so little time.  “ABC’s See What They Say’ is a teaching program that works.”

123 What Do You See?
In this book, your child will learn numbers 0-10.  Each number has a picture clue.  This helps the child to see a picture instead of lines and circles.  It also helps in writing the numbers correctly.

“We have a bright little first grade boy that has continually written his 2’s, 3’s, 4’s, 5’s, 6’s, 7’s, and 9’s backwards.  My husband sat down with our 1st grader one time for 15 minutes using the 123 What Do You See? Book and our boy’s problem was corrected.  The best part is that he thinks he is so smart now.”

                              Maria Duncan

ABC’s and 123’s See How to Trace
This book will teach the uppercase letters with their sounds.  It also includes the lower case letters along with the numbers.  Children love this book because they get to practice writing with their finger.

ABC’s See How to Chop and Blend - a Recipe for Reading
In the chop and blend book, children learn how to hold out their sounds to make a word. They begin sounding out short words that include short and long vowels.  Silent letters and phonetics are taught.  In level two of this book, consonant blends (br/, sm/, etc .), and digraphs (/ch/ , /sh/ , etc.) are blended with short and long vowels.

“The blending book was just the book I was looking for!!!  My child was having trouble with “sounding out” a word.  He knows all of his letters, but couldn’t “sound out” words.  The blending book has taught him how to hold on to a sound long enough to catch the next sound, Thus enabling him to form a word.  The tactile step has helped to keep him focused.  The end result, he has been able to start reading without frustration!”

Phrases See What They Say
After children have completed the Chop and Blend book, they are ready to practice short phrases.  They will read phrases using short, long and silent vowels, copycat letters and digraphs.  Expression is taught from the very beginning.  The children read each phrase three times.  The first time to figure out what it says, the second time to add expression, and the third to read it without the clues and hold the expression in the phrase.  There are no sight words in this book.

Stories See What They Say
In this book, children get to read longer stories practicing the same skills in the Phrases book.  However, in this book, the clues are only on the vowels, copycat letters, and the digraphs.  They read each story three times, the third without any clues.  No sight words are in this book either.

Imletteration!
Now that the children have a solid foundation of the phonics rules, they are ready to have some fun with vowels that make different sounds other than the short and long sound.  Imletteration comes from the word impersonation.  We can dress up like someone else and act like them.  Well, sometimes the letters like to dress up like other letters and say their sound.  For example, the clue for the short sound ’o’ is octopus legs.  The ’a’ in ball borrows the octopus legs from the letter ’o.’  This is a FUN way for children to learn that each vowel can make other sounds.  Did you know that the letter ‘a’ and ‘o’ can make  9 different sounds?

When your student has completed all the books in the See abc’s Reading Program, they are ready to pick up any book they are interested in and read it.  When they come to a word they have not seen yet and they need a little help, imletterate the word for them on a flashcard.  Write the word without being imletterated on the back.  They can practice their flashcards until they know the word.  Soon they will not need the help of the flashcards anymore.

The See abc’s Reading Program also includes three imletterated books your child will love to read.
